Ever wish you could be a fire-breathing dragon? Well, you can! Dragon Breath is a fun way to relax the entire body and mind very quickly, releasing tension and having fun at the same time. This technique is a fabulous self-regulation tool to teach kids, to practice anywhere, anytime!
How does it help me? Dragon Breath is a great tool if you are feeling stressed, or if you have been working hard physically or mentally and need a break. The releasing, or letting go element of Dragon Breath will have your mind and body feeling calm and relaxed in no time.
How do I do it?
1. Begin in a comfortable position, either seated or lying on the floor.
2. Alternatively, you can begin in child’s pose. Knees bent on the floor, torso resting on top of thighs and forehead resting on floor. Allow the arms to rest on the floor along side the torso, palms facing up.
3. Take a deep breath in through the nose, filling the lungs until your belly pushes out.
4. Open the mouth and let the air escape with an *“Aaaaaah”.
5. Repeat 3-5 times.
*Tip: This is not like Lion’s Breath where you roar and make a lot of noise forcing the air out. To practice Dragon Breath, open the mouth and let the air flow out softly, like a fire-breathing dragon toasting a soft marsh-mellow. If he forces the air out he will burn the marsh-mellow to a crisp, if he aspirates, the heat from his breath will gently and evenly toast the delicate marsh-mellow to perfection.
