• EGGstra’s For Your Easter Kiddos Yoga Plans

    Oriental Trading is a pediatric yoga teacher’s dream. Much like my regular Target runs, I intend to purchase one item and end up buying ten… but those extra purchases are always put to good use, resulting in FUN, ENGAGING yoga classes. Last week’s Easter lesson plan demonstrated fun ways to incorporate an Easter theme to your classes in a non-denominational style. Here are some more fun ideas for a yoga based Easter egg hunt.

    Dinosaur Eggs – The image on the wrappers of each egg do not correlate with the animal found inside. The wrappers are tightly bound and a little difficult for tiny hands to remove, so I removed them prior to teaching class. I ordered 2-dozen of these critters and here are the seven different dinosaurs I found inside, along with a suggested yoga activity for each:

    Camptosaurus – Horse pose, rest hands on thighs, inhale; exhale twist right shoulder toward left knee and ROAR! Inhale back to center; exhale twist left shoulder toward right knee and ROAR! Inhale back to center. repeat x 3
    Triceratops

    Triceratops – Goddess pose with cactus arms. Inhale extend neck forward (horn); exhale relax neck. Repeat x 3

     

    Barosaurus

    Brachiosaurus – Warrior Three (Lifted leg is tail stretching straight back; Hands reach forward, palms clap munching leaves!)

    Edaphosaurus

    Edaphosaurus – Cat/Cow

    Parasaurolophus

    Parasaurolophus – Inhale arms overhead, exhale lower palms to rest stacked on head; Inhale open elbows wider, exhale drawer elbows to touch in front of face.

    Carnotaurus

    Carnotaurus – Chair Pose w/Lions Breath – Dinosaur ROAR!

    Stegasaurus

    Stegosaurus – Forearm Plank Walk

    Tiger

    Tiger – Stalking Tiger (AKA Spinal Balance Vinyasa Flow): Begin in table, reach right hand forward and left leg straight back on inhale; exhale back to table, on inhale reach left hand forward and right leg back. Repeat x 3

    Hippopotamus

    Hippopotamus – Floor Bow, roll from side-to-side

    Gorilla

    Gorilla – Gorilla Pose: Standing forward fold, lift one foot at a time and slide hands under fit, palms facing up. Inhale half lift with torso, exhale fold in toward legs, bend elbows and straighten legs to deepen pose.

    Rhinoceros

    Rhinoceros – Warrior I, Palms touch overhead, inhale; Hinge forward on exhale to charge!
